5 details you should know about Sons of the Forest, the game that surpasses triple A as the most anticipated on Steam

Endnight Games' new survival horror game will be released in Early Access and we want to highlight a few details before you get lost trying to survive.

If you're a fan of terrifying settings, crafting, and survival, surely you've been waiting like rain for the release of Sons of the Forest, the sequel to The Forest and created and distributed by Endnight Games -the same developers of its first part almost five years ago.

A few hours after its launch in Early Access, at our site we want to present you with five details that you should take into account when considering getting this sequel that promises to be bigger and more complete than the first. So stock up for a night in the woods and let's get on with it.

What is Sons of the Forest, five things to know
Sons of the Forest is the sequel to the game The Forest. It is set on a supposedly deserted island in which we must survive mutants, cannibals, and other dangers while trying to locate a missing billionaire in the area where we are. As the canons of survival games dictate, it will depend on us to provide ourselves with sustenance and tools to survive, weapons with which to defend ourselves and decisions to make if we want to fulfill our mission while we make life on the island of nightmare in which we find ourselves.

1 - He wants to be bigger than his predecessor
Obviously, the aspiration of any sequel is to surpass its predecessor, and it seems that Sons of the Forest is on the right track in that regard. Apart from the fact that its map will be up to four times larger than in The Forest, this time we will have a larger arsenal to face the threats that we will find on the island where the sequel takes place.

But it's not just going to incorporate new options to "dismember" or defend ourselves from the cannibals neighboring our new home. In addition to them, this time it is expected that we can interact with non-aggressive NPCs (at least initially) to progress in the game.

2 - It will be playable in Early Access
Despite the fact that, practically, at the last moment its developers recognized that the game was not going to be ready for February 23, Endnight Games wants to repeat the play that was marked with the first one by putting it in Early Access on Steam (Early Access). If we are to be guided by how the experience was with its first part -also released in this way- in 2018, it is not something that should take us back.

Rather the opposite, because although some elements may be missing to consider the game 100% complete, it will include the almost complete experience and to be able to play it from start to finish. Of course, we do not rule out that there are some other bugs to correct, but that from the Canadian study they assure that it will be one of their priorities while early access lasts. By the way, the starting price for this Early Access on Steam will be 30 euros.

3 - A "realistic" crafting
In a survival game we have to take into account factors such as the weather, food or drink, but also knowing how to assemble our own tools and structures so as not to faint. In this regard, Sons of the Forest wants to be an experience that runs away from the classic system of plans or automated constructions; One of those that you have everything you need to set up a tent -a piece of cloth and some sticks for example-, you combine them, and potagia magic! You already have a store ready to use.

This is not valid here. It is important to have the necessary materials but also the right ones: the logs or poles you get have to be the same height, the cloth or fiber that will cover the tent has to be placed correctly and other factors of that style will determine how good or useful that our creations will be. It is to be hoped that this system that demands precision from the player will be extended to the rest of the elements.

4 - A plot we can follow... or not
One of the great attractions of survival games is the fact that they can never end. Survival is an end in itself, and the important thing here will be not to starve or be the main course of beasts, monstrosities or cannibals that roam freely in our new terrain. However, unlike what happened in The Forest, here we will have a somewhat more elaborate plot, but don't be afraid that the spirit of exploration typical of the IP is not lost.

Everything will continue to be discovered through pure exploration with some small tasks that force us to fulfill them in order to progress. But they will not prevent us from continuing to focus on the primary objective, which is none other than our own survival. Anyway, as it also happened with The Forest, there is a conclusion to the title story, very similar toother games of the genre such as Subnautica or Raft.

5 - Not for the faint of heart, but you can come with friends
What would a survival game be without a small horror component? Although it is not a factor that all games of the genre include, the fact that they have some component that keeps us on permanent alert helps to immerse us in the game, but it can be a brake for those who want to enjoy a calm experience (for example, thalassophobics are not able to play Subnautica or have a very bad time if they fall into the sea in Sea of Thieves).

To the anxiety of seeing how hunger and thirst can kill us, we must add the horror of being devoured by cannibals or mutant creatures, and sometimes we will have to go to their territory to survive. These are, dark caves or places far from our camp - we could arrive or have to go at night to a raid of some kind. And the solutions will not be "nice". The combats will be dark and bloody and we will have to be imaginative to scare away the cannibals; sticking one's head on a stake is the equivalent of putting a torch near our house in Minecraft to avoid visits from Creepers.

But best of all, is that we can share the experience with other players; Up to four people can form a group and collaborate so as not to be eaten by cannibals or faint due to lack of food and water. The saying goes: shared poverty (or fear) is more bearable.

Remind you that the game is an Early Access and that we should have a little patience with possible failures that it may bring. Even so, we trust that they will not go beyond being annoyances that can be quickly corrected as they are already planned, and we point out that in Guides and Tricks we will closely follow this game to offer you advice so as not to fall on the deserted island while we are looking for the lost billionaire.
