Spanish teen sensation Carlos Alcaraz won his first title since the US Open triumph, defeating Cameron Norrie in straight sets to clinch the Argentina Open.

Alcaraz, who slipped to world number two spot after Novak Djokovic won the 2023 Australian Open, overcame Norrie 6-3, 7-5 in the clay-court final.

"I felt very comfortable playing the final," Alcaraz said post-match. "I knew that it was going to be really difficult. I started really focussed on what I had to do at the beginning, my game, my level. This is the level that I have to play in finals."

Alcaraz returned to competitive tennis after recovering from a leg injury which kept him out of the Australian Open. The 19-year-old Alcaraz dropped only one set at the Argentina Open - his first tournament of the year.

The Spaniard broke Norrie in the second set quickly after pocketting the opening set in just 36 minutes. Britain's Norrie hit back Alcaraz when the latter was serving for the winner at 5-4. Alcaraz broke Norrie with a drop shot to lift the trophy.

Alcaraz will next look to defend his title at the Rio Open. Meanwhile, Norrie slipped to 4-9 in tour-level finals with the defeat against Alcaraz. Norrie's three wins, however, drew him level with Stefanos Tsitsipas for the most tour-level wins (13) this season.
