American Red Cross Giving Day 2023

American Red Cross Giving Day is observed every fourth Wednesday in March and this year, it falls on March 22. American Red Cross Giving Day is an opportunity for people to come together and support and help the urgent humanitarian needs of the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross was created to help whoever was in need, without any discrimination. The organization was created to provide support and assistance to the wounded on the battlefield and endeavors both nationally and internationally to prevent and alleviate suffering wherever it is found.

HISTORY OF AMERICAN RED CROSS GIVING DAY

First established in June 2015, the American Red Cross Giving Day strives to bring people together to support those in need. It is a day to bring in public support for humanitarian aid in whichever way possible. They accept donations as well as volunteers and even teach people how to save lives. They train people to be able to administer first aid treatment to victims in various kinds of situations so that they are equipped to save lives if the need arises.

Henry Dunant started the international Red Cross and the Red Crescent movement in 1863. Dunant was upset by the loss of lives during the 1859 Battle of Solferino. He proposed national relief societies, which would be made up of volunteers trained during peacetime to provide neutral and impartial help to those in need, bringing relief during times of war. A committee was established in Geneva and the charter for the Red Cross was drawn up in 1863. Later, he proposed that countries adopt an international agreement that would recognize the status of medical services and the wounded on the battlefield. This was the original Geneva Convention, and it was adopted in 1864.

Soon the British Red Cross came into being. In August 1870, during the Franco-Prussian War, a resolution was passed for the formation of the British National Society for Aid to the Sick and Wounded. In 1905, it was renamed the British Red Cross.
