The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 runtime surfaces online, and it's not just the longest in the trilogy but one of the MCU's longest movies to date.

The runtime for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 looks out of this world.
As reported by The Direct, per details on Atomic Tickets' website, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be 2 hours and 29 minutes long, beating its predecessor Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 by twelve minutes. This ties Vol. 3 with 2018's Avengers: Infinity War for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's fourth longest film, surpassed only by Avengers: Endgame, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Eternals.
On top of its official runtime, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 obtained a PG-13 rating from The Motion Picture Association of America, the same rating as director James Gunn's previous two Guardians films. Recent trailers promised the Guardians battling geneticist villain High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) as well as the arrival of Will Poulter's Adam Warlock, a character teased during one of Vol. 2's mid-credit scenes. Other additions to Vol. 3 include Maria Bakalova as Cosmo the Spacedog -- following her brief The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special cameo -- and Rocket's anthropomorphic otter companion Lylla.
James Gunn Bids the Guardians of the Galaxy Goodbye
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 marks Gunn's last Marvel Studios film. The director recently warned fans about reading any potential Vol. 3 spoilers online, though he also opined, "I don't think your enjoyment of the film will be diminished much by knowing them." Gunn has implied that Vol. 3 will focus heavily on Rocket, even referring to the cybernetic raccoon as the Guardians trilogy's "secret protagonist." Gunn explained, "I think he exemplifies a lot of the traits of all the Guardians. They've had all these traumas, and it brings them together. I just think that his [trauma] is more extreme than others."
Despite briefly appearing in 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder, it's still unknown whether the Guardians will factor into Marvel's Phase 5 and 6 projects. Longtime franchise stars like Dave Bautista have repeatedly confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be their final MCU performances, though Gunn suggested that he might cast Bautista, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff and other Guardians alumni in his upcoming DCU films.
While Vol. 3 is still set for a May theatrical release, the MCU's next 2023 film, The Marvels, was recently delayed to November. Additionally, multiple Disney+ shows like Echo and Ironheart were reportedly pushed back to 2024, though nothing has yet been confirmed by Marvel Studios.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on May 5, 2023.
