Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre sweeps multiple industry awards in 2023
KUALA LUMPUR – The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (The Centre), Malaysia’s premier purpose-built events venue, has been receiving recognition for its excellence in a variety of fields with several recent award wins.
These include the award for Best Convention & Exhibition Centre in the Travel Trade Gazette’s (TTG) Travel Awards 2023. The TTG Travel Awards have recognised the best of Asia-Pacific’s travel industry since 1989 and are one of the most coveted and influential awards to be won in the region’s travel industry. The winners are chosen based on votes from experienced travel industry professionals and experts.
The Centre’s General Manager, Mr John Burke, received the award in person at the awards ceremony hosted in Thailand’s Centara Hotel on 6th October. The Centre also picked up the Malaysia Partner Experience of the Year – Exhibition Centre award from the Asian Experience Awards 2023. The Centre received this award for its partnership effort in driving the development of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre SDG precinct initiative – an ongoing project focused on establishing the KLCC precinct as the first SDG-compliant hub in Malaysia.
The Centre’s culinary expertise was also recognised during the prestigious Culinaire Malaysia chefs’ competition, which was hosted at the Centre as part of the 17th edition of the Food & Hotel Malaysia (FHM) exhibition in late September. The Centre’s chefs took the opportunity to demonstrate their skills during the competition and picked up four gold, six silver and six bronze medals as a result. The Centre’s team, competing against Malaysia’s foremost chefs, also emerged as champion in the Most Outstanding Chef and Junior Chef categories and claimed the first runner up status in the Chef of the Nation category.
Commenting on these wins, John Burke, General Manager of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, said, “We are exceptionally pleased and delighted to win so much recognition in a relatively short space of time. It is a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and expertise of my team at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and I want to thank them all for their hard work. I would also like to thank everyone who voted for us in the TTG Travel Awards and the esteemed judges of both the Asian Experience Awards and Culinaire Malaysia who recognised both our sustainability efforts and the exceptional talent of our F&B team.”
Burke added, “The value of these awards is not just the recognition they bring, but also the extra motivation it provides our team. We must stay on top of our game to retain our position as Malaysia’s premier events destination and these awards help boost our morale and give our team an extra bounce in their step as we strive for continual improvement and excellence.”
Back in July, the Centre also picked up two awards at The Edge Best Managed & Sustainable Property Awards (BMSPA) 2023 including the “Best Managed & Sustainable Property” award and the “Editor’s Choice Award – Malaysia’s Outstanding Specialised Development 2023”.
